Charlie Sheen death hoax spreads malware on Facebook and Twitter

Facebook Charlie sheen scam
No, despite what you may have heard on Facebook and Twitter, Charlie Sheen is not yet dead.

With the eye-catching title of "RIP! Charlie Sheen found Dead at his House," a massive clickjacking hoax is doing the rounds on Facebook and Twitter. Clicking the link will take you to a fake YouTube page -- and if you click anywhere on the page, the hoax will infect your Facebook profile and begin sharing the link to your friends.

You are then asked to complete a survey (why does anyone complete these surveys?) Finally, to consummate the malware trifecta, some users are reporting that malware is downloaded to your computer.

If you've fallen prey to this drug-and-porn media orgy and clicked the "RIP!" link, head to Account > Privacy Settings > Edit your settings (bottom left). Alternatively, click this link to go straight to your app settings. From there, revoke any applications that look spammy (they'll be at the top of the list).

You should also update and run your antivirus/anti-malware software to clean up any residual mess.

Finally, to protect yourself from future scams, you really should follow FaceCrooks, which is dedicated to uncovering and publicizing the latest Facebook scams.

Kinect hacked to work with PlayStation 3, plays Killzone 3 badly

PS3 controlled using Kinect
Microsoft's Kinect, the fastest-selling gadget ever, has now been hacked to work with the PlayStation 3.

The Kinect isn't directly plugged into a PS3, though (that would be too awesome). Instead, it's plugged into a conventional PC laptop, where PrimeSense's first-party drivers are used to interface with Kinect. The data from Kinect is then converted into a format that the PS3 can understand, and output directly to the console using using diyps3controller, which lets the laptop USB controller interface with the PS3.

There's a video of the developer logging in and playing Killzone 3 on his PS3 using the Kinect after the break. Well, attempting to play Killzon 3, we should say. It seems like the hack has a little way to go before it's actually usable...

Sony: every NGP game will be available to download, some might not even make it to physical release

We're filling the time between now and the NGP's holiday season release the best way we know how: by hunting down yet more information about it. Andrew House, the man in charge of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, has delivered the latest tidbit in an interview with MCV, where he states unequivocally that every game on the next PlayStation Portable will be available to buy as a download. Notably, he also expresses Sony's desire to have simultaneous distribution in both digital and physical channels, but that sounds a lot less concrete than his promise that every game will be downloadable. Digital-only games also figure prominently in Andrew's vision of the NGP's future, as he expects them to diversify choice for consumers alongside the big time titles like Uncharted. To learn more about Sony's replacement of UMDs with flash memory and the reasoning behind the PlayStation Suite, follow the source link below for the full interview.

Firefox 4 now available to download, official release tomorrow

It isn't available from the official Firefox website yet, but Firefox 4 is now available to download from the Mozilla releases FTP server. Update: you can hit a random FTP mirror by using these links: Windows / Mac OS X / Linux.

Despite what we reported last week, there was an unexpected (and unannounced) RC2 released on March 18. The final release build seems to have followed quickly after on Saturday, March 19. The official launch of Firefox 4 is due tomorrow.

Firefox 4 brings with it a slew of new features, including, most notably, a completely overhauled user interface that makes it look a lot like Chrome, but hardware acceleration and the jet-powered JaegerMonkey JavaScript engine also jostle for center stage. In true Mozilla style, Firefox 4 also brings support for many emerging standards, such as HTML5, CSS3 and WebGL. Finally, there are neat features like built-in Sync, restartless add-ons, and workspace management with Panorama.

For more information about Firefox 4, check our complete guide. We also have a fine selection of Firefox 4's finest restartless add-ons.

Update: Mozilla has asked us to say that this might not turn out to be the actual final build. It's still going through QA right now, and something might come up. Don't worry though: your browser will automatically update if a new build is released.

There are also some exciting goodies planned for tomorrow, and Mozilla doesn't want us to satisfy your Firefox 4 hunger just yet. Basically, if you want to enjoy the 'true Firefox 4' experience (including the pretty first-run splash screen), you should hold off installing until it's released tomorrow.

[thanks to everyone who sent this in!]
